Leeds Gig - review
Well, we've done it - we've played our first gig as three piece and it was a blast.
Rik Lee opened the gig in fine style with his own brand acoustic punk singer songwriter goodness - even playing 'Rip Off' one of my favorite of his songs. Incidentally its' available to listen to on the Exploding Kid mySpace page.
We then took to the stage for a 9 song set (6 new and 3 old) which we blasted through with barely a note wrong. We were very loud and there were no vocal monitors hooked up so there were a few dodge vocal moments but all in all it went very well, and the crowd we're VERY receptive.
For some reason we played everything at significantly faster, but that all added to the intensity and I think we'll probably keep the pace up in future.
For the record the set ran thus:
- Dog Star
- My Wicked Other Self
- Scars
- Ordinary Day
- Don't let go
- Lets hear it for the Freaks
- The Trouble with Johnny
- Wrecking Ball
- Rip It Up
Liquidhead banged out a great set of new and old material - with new singer Chris on board and the resultant change to a single guitar the sound has taken on a new quality and the band seem totally reinvigorated! Liquidhead are one of those bands who are always 10 times better live then on recordings - there is an energy to their shows which is tough to capture in the studio - but here in a hot, sweaty dive bar they were in their element. I never get tired of gigging with these guys.
The gig also raised over £300 for Martin House hospice into the bargain - good work everyone!
If anyone has any photos of Grinn from last night then please mail them in.
Its great to be back - Roll on Barnsley!
