GIG - Panama Joe's, Barnsley 12th Nov 04
Weird one this.
Its a decent enough venue to play, it's got the feel of a New York bar, plenty of stage room, though the bands play across the width rather than the length. Friendly staff, Paddy always gets a decent cup of coffee made for him.
It the type of venue where the juke box music is the right volume -loud enough to hear properly but quiet enough that you can maintain a conversation. The type of place where you could pop in for a swift pint with a couple of friends an find yourself rolling out, blinking several hours and many pints later.
A good gig all in all but the punters were a bit quiet tonight.
We took Mary-Jane as support who acquitted themselves well as usual, but with only a subdued crowd to bounce off the banter was limited to some pissed up letch's comments about Teri's chest.
We imported Scuzzy PA to look after the sound, which they did with great aplomb - meaning we got to hear the best Mary-Jane gig I can remember.
We hit the stage at around 10:00 and gave 'em a dammed good show - the crowd we're polite and seemed to enjoy it, but by god it was difficult getting them involved - like a room full of shy and retiring wall-flowers. They didn't get an encore because they didn't shout loud enough.
Got a lot of good comments after the show and sold a couple of CDs.
The landlady as has asked to re book us and suggested a Saturday night slot with a door take percentage so that she can up our pay - and we're up for it.
With a bit of work, I think we could build up a half decent following here!
I think Liz got some photos and they'll appear in the flickr feed soon.
